About the only good thing you can say about this photo is that the sun was shining on the day it was taken. Actually, that's not quite fair, the roof was new in this 2004 photo. But everything under it
was original equipment, and the life fully lived out of it. It was time for the complete makeover, and although this one should have starred on HGTV.... they never called.
A sad looking house there, the worst one on the block, but as many of the surrounding homes have, it has been brought back to a vibrant life and fits in well with all of the other great looking homes in the neighborhood.
That's one of the reasons you'll like it here: what was once a well-worn 80's community is now looking new again. Original owners have grown up and moved on, and the new owners are helping to fix the place up. Longtime neighbors are deciding to stay, too, because they like it here, and are updating their properties as well.

This home looks really special now, but the complete make-over it went through didn't happen all at once. It was a continual project that started right after move-in and finally finished last year with the most impressive of all the changes taking place then.
Obviously the first thing that had to be done was to change the interior wall colors. You can see that the chosen colors were relatively low-key, neutral and are ones you can move it to and not feel the need to change right away. The owners could have just painted over the trim and doors, but opted to replace them instead because these little details just make a home look and present much NEWER. Along with getting all of the colors brought up to modern selections, the carpet was replaced too, transforming the living space into something far more pleasing to the eye.
The following year the hall bathroom was renovated with a tile floor. A new Bertch vanity was installed with a granite counter-top, ceramic sink, Danze brushed nickel fittings, and a full length mirror cabinet lit with a mirrored dressing room light bar. A new low-volume-flush toilet was installed. Additionally, the baseboard, trim, molding and interior doors for the entire home were all replaced during 2005.
2006: A complete exterior change-over was undertaken. The tired looking vinyl siding was finally removed and replaced, along with every window in the house. That includes the sliding glass door out to the deck and the addition of a bay window that gives the house, both from the outside as well as the inside, a high-end upscale look. Of course you couldn't do all of this and keep the same garage doors, so they were
changed out as well and both sides were installed with door openers.
Folks, are you noticing a pattern to this story? Each year the owners outdid the stuff they did the previous year. All of this is value that you are getting in virtually new condition. Think about it... 2007 saw the deck replaced from the decking up - railing and all - and a gazebo!. A sprinkler system for both front and rear yards was installed. The front door was replaced with one with an Arts & Crafts style leaded glass window. And then, the ENTIRE air conditioning system was replaced. Not just a new AC unit, but the whole system - ducting and all.
So, last year, in the slam-dunk finishing touch to the complete make-over this house has gotten in the past three years, the kitchen and dining room were replaced beginning with a new hardwood
floor - NOT laminate, but real hardwood . Custom cherry cabinets, built by a local cabinetmaker FOR this house include all of the pull-outs, soft-close drawers and other cool kitchen cabinet doodads you have been dreaming of. Granite countertops, new appliances - the whole list is over there on the right for you to go over. This is the jewel of the house, as it should be, and you can see it in the wide-angle-artsy architectural digest photos from every angle in the slide show. You will be feeling very good about anything you cook-up for your household in this kitchen. Two or three cooks could work on an event at one time here. This is a kitchen begging for a party, so buy this house and bring one on!
So, that's an overview of the value you'll find with this home, as fine a specimen of Hudson Valley Homes as they come - there are plenty of things not mentioned that you will just have to come and see for yourself in person. Be sure to read the note down at the bottom about the photography.
Municipal Services Here... Being in the Village of Monroe, the home uses municipally supplied natural
gas, water and sewer for a worry-free supply of these basic services.
If you get home from work and don’t feel like fixing dinner, just take the night off and go out to dinner at one of the many establishments that surround you. It's a great looking colonial, isn't it? You will be impressed with what you see when we go inside. But look at that garage back there, it is a bit different from most residential garages. It's VERY tall. Before we go into
the house, let's detour and take a look at that garage first. This one was built by a previous owner who had a special need - a place to park his tractor when he wasn't out pulling semi-trailers all over the country. Now, it's likely that you won't be coming with a tractor you need to park, but....
It doesn't end there because above the garage is another 330 square feet of high-ceilinged space (11 ft. walls, both floors) that could be finished-out as an office
or studio, or inventory storage to support the business. This is added value that just comes with the cool colonial at no extra charge, but
for the right person it could mean the freedom to be self-employed, and right at home....could that person be YOU?
Otherwise, it's a great place to park your car even with a fully loaded getaway
roof rack.
As it says above, this home was fully renovated in 2001, but to look at it today, it looks like it hasn't been touched once since - everything here looks so new. Nearly every surface here was improved, as the home was originally a ranch, and the renovation changed all of that entirely, morphing the home into the colonial you see today. The sellers did not overdo anything (except maybe the heating/AC system) and yet everything was tastefully done and fits so well.
Look at the yard as you walk up to the door. A low hedge line is down at the street, not blocking the view across, but still putting a nice border on the front of the property so you're not looking at the street. A small and very easily managed yard is lined at the sidewalk by evergreen plantings, and then a weeping specimen tree there at the turn in the walkway before the door. The planter in front of the home contains annuals (that are just about done for the year) that tie everything together nicely as an entrance to the home.
A beveled-stained-glass door brings you into the dining room / great room in the front of the home, with the dining
and kitchen off to the right and the great room on the left. If you look carefully you can see that
the great room is actually bigger than is easily seen in the photo, as the room is a bit L-shaped. Behind the blue chair is an area that is
presently being used as a play area for the seller's children, and takes the great room all the way to the back of the home. The "L" would make another seating area, or the furniture could just be moved out to the perimeter to make use of all of the space there. That's why it's called a "great" room.
There are plenty of windows throughout this home, allowing natural light to fill the space brightly. The large dining room is surrounded by windows which extend into the kitchen as well.
The dining room, located at the front of the home, is large in it's own right, and for large
holiday gatherings could be extended easily across into the family room. Pergo flooring, an easy to maintain material, has been installed and finished well in the dining area.
The kitchen, with counters and cabinets on two walls, provides enough room for at least a couple of cooks working a meal or party project. All appliances shown in the photo stay with the home, of course. A tile backsplash behind the counter will be installed soon, and in the photo you can
almost see what a sample section looks like. It's a travertine tumbled mosaic
tile, and if you
look at the slide-show you'll see it better in the hi-res
presentation. Not shown are a wall of cabinets and more counter on the rear wall of the kitchen and home, providing enough storage for whatever cooking equipment you may have. A wood and tile patterned Formica flooring was used for the kitchen, again a professional installation that really provides a great visual foundation for the kitchen-space.
The basement stairs are just beyond the kitchen in the photo there. One half of the basement is completely finished into what is now being used as an entertainment room, and an office in the corner. A "B-Dry" system has been
installed in the finished half of the basement so that if ever the basement tried to take on water there would be a system in place to stop it from being a problem. If you're not familiar with B-Dry, just search for it on Google and you'll find plenty of reading material to learn from. If you are from another part of the country where there are no basements, understand that B-Dry and similar systems are VERY common improvements to basements that are finished-out. By the way, the office furniture you see stays with the house.
The other half of the basement looks like a basement, with all of the utility stuff and plenty of
storage space and room for a workshop. You will notice the heating system. Actually, it is hard to miss. It was seriously overdone because the seller is in the HVAC business and he did it because he could...
It's nice when you get to take advantage of the business you're in, isn't it?. Look above when you come for your showing, and you will see a UV water purification system that was installed to take care of a temporary situation a few years ago when the village's
municipal water system was being worked on and
stuff was being kicked into the water. Bacteria dies when ultra violet light hits it - these devices are used in hospitals and other places where it is important to not have any bacteria in the drinking water. This is a peace-of-mind kind of benefit. Pretty nice basement so far, huh? You can read about the rest of it in the specs over in the details column on the right.
The first bedroom is on the driveway side of the home, and features a very large walk-in
closet with professionally installed closet-shelving on three walls. Wall to wall carpet pads the feet, and a ceiling fan is above to help make the heat and air conditioning even more efficient. The second bedroom is on a front corner of the house, and has similar features but with a full-wall closet instead.
The master bedroom suite covers nearly half of the upper floor. Wall to wall carpet is the
foundation, with four large windows on two sides, a tray ceiling above, and a fan and recessed lighting on dimmers...to set the mood. Behind the entry to this bedroom is a relaxing retreat for adults desiring a change from the hubbub of household life. The large and private space allows for clear thinking and re-charging.
The master-bathroom features a whirlpool tub with an added heater to extend your soak. Stay as long as you wish,
and bring a friend or two if you'd like... Cool off after your soak in the stall shower there
in the corner, and you'll be ready to rejoin civilization again. Or, forget 'em all and get a great night's rest instead.
It's your time.
The 660 square foot deck you see here is more than 6 times larger than the one you would get with a new construction home in Orange County. Understatement: There is enough space here for a very large party. Your guests will be most comfortable here with the free flow inside and outside your home. The deck's foundation was installed with the intention of eventually extending the home to the rear, but this was
never done. However, this may come in handy someday should the new owner wish to build the home out to the rear. 24,000 pounds of water sat on that deck for quite awhile when a hot tub was up there, a decent test of sturdiness. Gates on the deck lead out to the driveway and to the rear yard.
The rear yard is fenced all around, providing you with a child-secure yard. There are three access gates, on either side of the home, and on the other side of the garage. The rear of the property backs up to the Wright Family Farm, which is a well known destination for visitors to experience farm life and in the fall, pick-your-own-pumpkins. So, there are no neighbors to the rear of the home.
On our earlier tour of the garage, we did not mention the trailer parking area on the other side of the garage. The width here is 9+ feet and is certainly large enough for a fishing boat, you can see the trailer parked there now in the photo above. The driveway
itself is quite large and can accommodate at least five autos.
We could say a lot more here, but won't, because you need to come see all this home has to offer. Do it for you and your household. It could be the beginning of a most enjoyable life.
It's your move...
